Scheduled Maintenance

Monthly Windows and Linux Server Patching Jul 19, 2026 01:00 - Jul 21, 2026 07:00 EDT

All ITS-managed Windows servers that are joined to the AD.SYR.EDU domain, and ITS Linux servers which have an update group membership, will be restarted to apply system patches on Sunday, July 19, 2026 or Tuesday, July 21, 2026. Windows servers will patch between 2:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. ET, while Linux servers will patch between 1:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. ET, as determined by update group membership. Services on each Windows server will be unavailable for roughly 10-20 minutes. If installed updates require a Linux server to reboot, services will experience a short outage, typically less than 5 minutes.

This month's release from Microsoft includes a significantly higher number of security fixes than a typical patch cycle. Our team will be closely monitoring for any unexpected issues following the update window.

Multiple Locations' Networks to be Unavailable Jul 21, 2026 06:00-07:00 EDT

In order to apply an upgrade, multiple locations' wired and wireless internet will be unavailable on Tuesday, July 21, 2026 from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. ET. Affected locations include the Warehouse, 2nd Floor 100 Sims, and various servers in rack f11 of Machinery Hall.

Users relying on MFA methods other than Microsoft Authenticator, specifically call and SMS, are unable to authenticate.
Resolved - We've updated the Entra policies. MFA should be functioning normally. If you're still seeing issues, please open an ADTT ticket with the NetID and a description of the experience.
